The Infant Center is located in Sleepy Hollow, just a few minutes away from the Tarrytown home of the Elizabeth Mascia Child Care Center. Thirteen infants, ranging in age from eight weeks to eighteen months, are enrolled at the Infant Center. The Infant Center is open weekdays throughout the year from 7:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Enrolled infants attend the program two-to-five full days per week.
In cooperation with the Public Schools of the Tarrytowns, the Infant center cares for the babies of a limited number of teenage mothers, enabling the young women to remain in school and attend parenting classes at the end of the school day.
Stimulating activities and group interactions are offered. Exploration is encouraged. Low child to teacher ratios are maintained. Daily parent and teacher communication is a crucial element of this program. Enrolled Infants are offered the opportunity to move on to the Toddler Program when they reach the appropriate age. That can be any time between 12 and 18 months of age according to the timing of an available opportunity in the Toddler program.
